Frequently Asked Questions
How soon will I see results?
Most users notice an immediate glow and better product absorption after their very first session. Visible improvements in skin texture typically appear after 3–4 sessions (6–8 weeks). Significant acne scar reduction and collagen changes develop over 3–6 months of consistent treatment.
Microneedling is not overnight magic — but it is one of the few at-home treatments where the results are real and cumulative.
Is it safe to do at home?
Yes — when you follow the correct protocol, at-home microneedling at appropriate depths carries very low risk. The Primed M8S gives you full control over needle depth, so you never go deeper than you're comfortable with. Every order includes our full UK Beginner's Protocol Guide, which walks you through preparation, treatment, and aftercare step by step. Thousands of UK customers use this safely every month.

Which needle depth should I use?
Start at 0.25mm for your first one or two sessions while your skin adjusts. For general texture and fine lines: 0.5mm. For acne scars: 0.75–1.0mm once you're comfortable. For deeper scarring: up to 1.5mm. Never exceed 2.0mm for home use. Our included guide has a full depth chart mapped to every skin concern so you'll always know exactly where to start.
What serum should I use?
Hyaluronic acid is the gold standard for microneedling — it's deeply hydrating, completely safe on freshly needled skin, and maximises the absorption benefit of the micro-channels. Apply it to each area just before needling and again immediately after. What to avoid directly before or after your session: Vitamin C, retinol, AHAs, BHAs, niacinamide, or any active exfoliants. Wait at least 24 hours before reintroducing these into your routine.
How often should I use it?
Every 4–6 weeks for standard microneedling sessions. This gap is important — it gives your skin time to complete its full collagen repair cycle. Using it more frequently than this does not produce faster results and can damage your skin barrier. If you want to do something between sessions, use the nano cartridge — it doesn't penetrate the skin and can be used every 1–2 weeks to boost serum absorption with zero downtime.
Is this the authentic Dr. Pen M8S?
Yes. Every Primed M8S includes an official authenticity verification label on the packaging. Simply scratch the coating to reveal your unique code, then enter it at drpenreal.com or scan the QR code with your phone camera to confirm your device is genuine. The M8S is CE certified and fully compliant with UK safety standards. We source only authenticated devices — not grey market or unverified stock.
What is the difference between the cartridge types?
12-Pin — the standard microneedling cartridge. Best for acne scars, fine lines, and general skin rejuvenation. This is your go-to for most sessions.
36-Pin — broader needle distribution across a larger surface area. Best for overall texture, skin tone, and coverage of larger areas like cheeks or forehead.
18-Pin Ultra-Thin (0.18mm) — finest needles in the kit. Designed for delicate or sensitive areas such as under the eyes, upper lip, and forehead. Significantly reduced sensation.
Nano Cartridge — no skin penetration. Used for nano-needling, which drives serums deeper without creating micro-injuries. No downtime, no redness. Use between your regular sessions.
Who should NOT use the Primed M8S?
Do not use if you have active acne, open wounds, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or any active skin infection in the treatment area. Do not use if you have a history of keloid scarring. Avoid use if you are currently taking blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or certain acne medications such as Roaccutane — wait at least 6 months after finishing a course. Consult your GP before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. When in doubt, check with your doctor first.
What is the difference between the Starter Kit and the Pro Kit?
The standard option (£129.99) includes the Primed M8S pen + 12 cartridges (5× 12-pin, 5× 36-pin, 2× 18-pin) + our beginner's guide. Everything you need to start.
The Starter Kit (£159.99) adds 8 extra cartridges and a full-size hyaluronic acid serum — so you have everything for your first 4–5 months without needing to reorder anything.
The Pro Kit (£189.99) includes 30 cartridges total, 2 serums, numbing cream, and the premium carry case — the complete setup for serious, long-term skin transformation.

"I wish I'd found this years ago". I've had rolling acne scars since I was 19. I've tried vitamin C, niacinamide, retinol, spent hundreds on serums that did absolutely nothing for the actual scars. Three months of using the Primed M8S consistently and my skin has genuinely changed. The texture is smoother, the scarring has visibly softened, and for the first time I'm leaving the house without full coverage foundation. I actually cried the first time I noticed it in natural light. Worth every single penny.

"My colleagues noticed before I said anything". I had microneedling twice at a clinic in Chelsea and the results were genuinely the best my skin had ever looked. But £185 a session just isn't sustainable. I did my research, found the Primed M8S, and honestly the results at home are on par with what I was getting professionally. My skin looks firmer, the fine lines around my eyes have softened noticeably, and my serums absorb in a way they never did before. Two of my colleagues asked what I'd done differently. That told me everything.

"Much easier than I expected and the results are real". I was genuinely nervous about doing this at home for the first time. I watched probably fifteen YouTube videos before I even opened the box. But the guide that comes with the Primed M8S is brilliant it walks you through everything so clearly that by the time I actually used it I felt completely confident. The sensation was way lighter than I expected. The next morning my skin looked more glowy and awake than it has in years. I'm on session five now and the texture difference is honestly shocking. Wish I'd started sooner.

"Same results as the clinic. A fraction of the price". I used to go to a med spa every six weeks for microneedling. £180 a session, which added up to well over £1,000 a year. When my budget changed I genuinely panicked I'd seen such good results I didn't want to stop. My therapist actually mentioned the Dr. Pen M8S when I explained the situation. I found Primed, ordered the same day. Six sessions in and my skin has maintained everything I'd built up professionally. The device quality is impressive it feels solid, serious, and nothing like the cheap gadgets I've seen on Amazon. Not going back to the clinic.

"Finally something that actually works on darker skin". I'd been warned off microneedling before because I have darker skin and was told it could cause more pigmentation. I did a lot of research before buying and started very carefully at 0.25mm as the guide recommends. Six sessions later and not only have I had zero issues, my skin tone is actually more even than it's ever been. The post-acne dark spots I've had for years have visibly faded. I'm so glad I didn't let the scaremongering put me off. The protocol in the guide is thorough and if you follow it properly, this is absolutely safe for darker skin tones.
